Bellingham’s KVWV Joins Pacifica Network

kvwvlogoKVWV 94.9 FM is part of Pacifica’s newest group of affiliate stations. Located in Bellingham, Washington, this low-power community radio station is committed to local arts and music, and it shows: well over half of the music played on the streaming station is local to the city and region. From KVWV: “Our goal is to bring to the local airwaves underrepresented stories, news and culture from our community that does not currently have a home on the FM dial. We want to empower a new generation of DJs, journalists and local culture enthusiasts to help bring new ideas to the FM dial and to shine a light on what makes Bellingham so special.”

Make.Shift Art Space is the parent non-profit of KVWV. The all-ages music venue also serves as an art and studio gallery for local artists and musicians to rent out.

From KVWV:

Bellingham is blessed to have a thriving independent media scene, with many local papers and perspectives adding to the dialogue about what makes our town special and how we can improve the community. 94.9 KVWV-FM seeks to fill our airwaves and programming schedule with many of these distinct voices and to put onto the airwaves the community organizations and non-profits that are working at the front lines to make our city more sustainable, resilient and respectful of our diversity of culture and identity. Our intention is to give the community ownership over our airwaves and to cover agricultural issues, youth and elder voices, LGBTQ perspectives, local music, environmental issues, Indigenous perspectives, local government and election coverage, Spanish language programs, local sustainability, comedy and theater, home and gardening tips and much, much more!

Welcome aboard, KVWV! We’re excited to see what the future has in store for your station and the rest of the Bellingham community!
