Brendan Carr Nominated as FCC Chair for 2025

Appointed to the FCC in 2017, Brendan Carr wrote the conservative FCC vision in Project 2025 (p 845). He focused on four goals in the document, namely, “reining in Big Tech, promoting national security, unleashing economic prosperity, and ensuring FCC accountability and
good governance.” One argument calls for elimination of “immunities that courts added to Section 230” of the Communications Decency Act,
which means tech platforms are being protected from being held liable for
user generated content, social media posts being an example.

Last April, Carr opposed the Commission’s ruling to restore Net Neutrality.

In 2023, Carr supported Elon Musk’s Starlink application for nearly $900
million in subsidies. The FCC noted the application was ultimately denied
for failure “to demonstrate that it could deliver the promised service.”

Note: Carr did not write the Project 2025 chapter discussing community
radio. That author is Mike Gonzalez (p. 246-248)
