DESCRIPTION OF EVENT:
President Bush last week nominated General Michael Hayden — a military officer — to head the Central Intelligence Agency — a civilian agency. Hayden was the director of the National Security Agency in September, 2001, when Bush authorized it to conduct warrantless surveillance on Americans. Hayden would have set up these procedures, and would have overseen the compilation of a database comprising the phone records of tens of thousands of Americans , handed over by their telephone service providers. The Senate Intelligence Committee will hold hearings into Hayden’s nomination. Questions will focus on his status with the military and on his connection to the NSA surveillance scandal. Breaks, pre-show and post-show will include expert analysis and anchor commentary.
