Pacifica Network Welcomes WHIV in New Orleans

New Orleans’ WHIV is one of Pacifica Radio’s newest station affiliates. Dr. MarkAlain Dery, who also serves as executive director of New Orleans Society for Infectious Disease Awareness (NOSIDA), manages the low-power station. Part of WHIV’s legal name, which also shares its objective, is, “Programming Dedicated to Human Rights and Social Justice,” and programming features health, safety, and social issues news and talk programming of local interest with music.

What I wanted to do was help to destigmatize [HIV] by saying WHIV day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year—and how you destigmatize a stigma is to repeat something over and over again.
-Dr. MarkAlain Dery, WHIV station manager and executive director of NOSIDA

The broadcast launch date is December 1, 2014, which is also World AIDS Day.
The station will broadcast on 102.3 FM, as well as via an online stream. Check out the station’s website at http://www.whivfm.org/.
